Malaysia is a major producer of  freshwater ornamental  fishes  in  the world with our annual  exports  reaching  over  RM60  million  year,  mainly  to  the  USA, Europe, Singapore, Japan and Taiwan. The potential for the further development is enormous, and the Government is giving many incentives to promote this trade.

At present over 500 species of ornamental fishes are produced in the country, largely in the fish farms of Johore, Perak, Selangor, and Penang.
