RP, Indonesia
extend cooperation on fishing development
Koronadal City
(24 April) -- The Philippines and Indonesia had
extended their cooperation on the development of
aquaculture, marine capture fisheries, post-harvest,
fish processing development, marine fisheries
conservation, anti-illegal fishing practices,
research activities, education, training and
environment protection.
The fisheries
cooperation of the Philippines with Indonesia has
been extended until 2010 after both parties signed a
memorandum of agreement.
President Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo strongly support the efforts of the
said cooperation with the help of the Department of
Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources (DA-BFAR), Department of Foreign Affairs
and the private sector.
The said
extension of the cooperation of Philippines and
Indonesia brought immediate relief to the local tuna
industry.
The new
agreement requires a joint committee composed of
senior officials from both countries that will
determine in detail the cooperation schemes and
effective implementation of several other fishery
tie-ups.
