  Mr. Henry Ho | Marine Fish Floating Cage & Hatchery Project at Sandakan

Mr. Henry Ho, who attended the STAC's aquafarming course in 1998, started a grouper farming project at his home town - Sandakan Sabah. He has multi - species of Tiger Grouper, Giant Grouper, Spotted Grouper, Mouse Grouper, Sea-bass and Red Snapper. His first harvest of 20 tans grouper was sold to Hong Kong Live Fish Trader who transported the groupers back to Hong Kong with a live-fish vessel.

Plentiful Harvest Sdn. Bhd was incorporated three years ago with the objectives of breeding fish fries and fish rearing at Mile 7 as its hatchery centre and Pulau Berhala as fish rearing centre. Recently, Plentiful Harvest Sdn. Bhd a wholly owned subsidiary of Borneo Aqua Harvest Berhad. The hatchery centre which was previously used for prawn’s aquaculture which had already been abandoned by prawn’s culture farmers. Within these few years, the company has achieved numerous break-through through its extensive Research and Development by acquiring the knowledge to analysis the behavior of the fish and the mastered the process of the artificial spawning technique applied to Marble Grouper, Red Snaper and as well as Coral Trout. Marble Grouper and Coral Trout are high commercial fishes for Hong Kong market and their market is global.

The success of the company in breeding and rearing of fishes which has attracted a lot of investors from other countries such as Australia, Japan, Korea etc came to visit the hatchery centre at mile 7 and rearing centre at Pulau Berhala. Recently, a team of investors leaded by David Whyte from NUTRECO, Australia an international company supplying nutrition feed to fishes and culturing of salmon fish in various countries came to visit Borneo Aqua Harvest’s hatchery and rearing centre. During his visits, David Coral Trout Grouper fry. He further said that he has visited many fish rearing farming in Asia like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia & Philippine, Sandakan, Sabah is the most suitable place for hatchery of fish fry and rearing of fish in view of its environment,  climate, temperature, geographical locality, competitive advantages and least risks area among the many other countries he had visited. He also noted that Borneo Aqua Harvest is feeding the fish fry with artificial nutrition feed in which the company will produce good quality of fish fry for the market.

Datuk Lo, CEO of Borneo Aqua Harvest, said “The company has more than 20 species of brood stocks at its rearing centre and some of these stocks are near production stages other than Marble Grouper, Coral Trout, Red Snapper. Our company has a mass production of fish fry of Marble Grouper, Coral Trout and Red Snapper and it will have more production of other spices in the near future. Currently, the price of Marble Grouper fries sold at RM3.50 per tail and RM8.00 to RM10.00 per tail for Coral Trout fry. Our cultured Marble Grouper and Coral Trout are sold to Hong Kong market at a stable price of RM40.00 to RM45.00 and dRM80.00 to RM120.00 per kg respectively. The profits margin is high. Further to that, the Federal Government is promoting and encouraging investors to invest in this type of business by granting Tax Incentives for a period up to ten (10) years commencing from the year in which company has made a profit.
