Tiger grouper is known as Epinephelus fuscoguttatus and is widely distributed in the coastal sea of Malaysia. It is known as Flowery Cod in Australia. The species is a fast-growing grouper in the Malaysia marine cage farming industries. It can reach about 500gm in 8-9 months. It is a hardy species and is a good candidate for large-scale marine cage culture in Malaysia. At present, there are 4 hatcheries in Malaysia producing the "Tiger Grouper" fingerlings for local marine cage farms. Due to a lot of enquiries about the technology of the hatchery production of the fingerlings, a new aquafarming training workshop has been started monthly for training of hatchery operators or aquafarming investors in the farming and hatchery production of Tiger Groupers. *The first intake was from 7th December 2004 |
